Since its formation in 1987, Transitions Saxophone Quartet has played for a wide range of audiences throughout Long Island, including wineries, art galleries, libraries, weddings and private parties. Transitions is dedicated to bringing the unique sound of music written for the saxophone to the general public. Our repertoire spans the classic works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Gershwin, and the renowned jazz artistry of Ellington, Parker, Joplin, Woods and Gillespie. Bill Link is the Director, Co-Founder, and Conductor of the Smithtown Community Band (SCB) and co-founding member of Transitions Saxophone Quartet since 1987. He selects, prepares, and leads musical presentations, and initiates and coordinates the project venues. Before retiring in 2020, Mr. Link was an instrumental music teacher for 36 years, having taught at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington and Comsewogue UFSD in Port Jefferson Station. Mr. Link plays Lead Alto and Soprano Saxophone for Transitions and resides in Smithtown.
Mike Rudnicki has been a member of the Smithtown Community Band since 2009 and Transitions Saxophone Quartet since 2007. Mr. Rudnicki has been an instrumental music teacher for over 25 years having taught in the elementary, middle, and high school(s) during his tenure in the Patchogue-Medford School District. Mr. Rudnicki plays Alto Saxophone for Transitions and resides in Holtsville.
Raffaele Maietta, the newest member of Transitions made his official debut with the quartet for the "History of Jazz" Workshop Series in 2022. Mr. Maietta received his BFA in Music Education, with an emphasis on saxophone, from Long Island University/CW Post, graduating in 1983. After teaching music in the Half Hollow Hills CSD from 1983-1989, Mr. Maietta joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1989 where he served for 32 years until his retirement in 2021 at the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Maietta plays tenor saxophone in Transitions and resides in Hauppauge.
Bill Leacock is the lead Alto Saxophonist for the SCB and co-founding member of Transitions Saxophone Quartet. Mr. Leacock met Mr. Link in 1987 as a member of the SCB and together they formed Transitions Saxophone Quartet. Mr. Leacock recently retired from the Bellmore-Merrick School District after 30 years as a Physics teacher at Mepham High School. Mr. Leacock is the Baritone Saxophonist for Transitions and resides in Bluepoint.
